Veterinary Nurse, Tess pays tribute to career progression at Village Vet

A dedicated veterinary nurse has paid tribute to the career progression opportunities made available to her after taking on a senior role overseeing nursing care at five north London practices.

Tess Taylor, who worked at Village Vet’s Garden Suburb practice, in East Finchley, was lead nurse at the practice for three years before taking on her new role of clinical nursing manager.

The change in role has seen Tess move from managing one practice and managing two team members to managing five sites and providing professional and operational leadership to nursing teams across the practices.

Her duties at Village Vet practices include weekly visits to give an overview of nursing teams and provision of patient care; and providing support and training for student veterinary nurses (SVNs) and patient care assistants (PCAs).

Tess said: “Throughout my time as lead nurse I was given many opportunities to further develop my leadership skills, including attending a two-day leadership event and vast amounts of free CPD. village vet career progressions for veterinary nurses in london

“After Linnaeus rolled out its nursing career framework, this provided clear career progression opportunities and enabled me to progress into my new role, where I oversee five of our north London clinics.

“I enjoy supporting the teams to ensure they are providing a high standard of care while working within a positive working environment and getting good job satisfaction. I also enjoy helping our associates develop their skills and progress within their roles.”

Tess said the Linnaeus nursing career framework helped her progress within Village Vet, as she wanted a new challenge where she could develop her leadership skills further and lead a larger team.

She said the most memorable moment in her new role so far was leading four interviews and successfully recruiting two of these candidates.

“Developing my skills in the interview and onboarding process has been exciting and very rewarding,” added Tess.

“It is great to work for Linnaeus as we have such a large and supportive team with clear career progression opportunities for all levels of the nursing teams, and the additional benefits we receive as employees are brilliant and support a good work/life balance.”
